Wilderness Adventures is a company within the Wilderness Group that came about as the result of partnerships between Wilderness Safaris and various local communities in southern Africa’s prime wildlife and wilderness areas. It was born out of a need for an authentic back-to-basics experience that is aimed at everyone from nature enthusiasts to young-at-heart travellers and families. Our places are located in key wildlife and nature areas of South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
The camps are larger than those of Wilderness Safaris, consisting of smaller, yet comfortable, en-suite canvas and thatch tents with rustic finishes. The emphasis in each camp though is on its main area, a convivial, friendly place to relax and enjoy good food and excellent company, the outcome being an active, involved and vibrant safari experience.
The nature experience is important above all else and camps are situated in prime locations in or adjacent to the diverse areas of Kruger National Park, iSimangaliso (Greater St Lucia) Wetland Park, Sossusvlei, Damaraland, Etosha, Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the Okavango Delta, the shores of Lake Malawi, Liwonde National Park, and Hwange National Park.

Explorations, a brand within the Wilderness Group, are an innovative range of fully serviced cross-country mobile safaris that create a secluded sense of wild camping in Africa. These safaris utilise mostly private concessions and wildlife areas exclusive to Wilderness guests, enhancing the range and diversity of activities. Explorations guides are highly trained and noted for their passion and knowledge of their particular countries and lead each journey from start to finish, creating a seamless and detailed interpretive experience. A variety of travel modes such as game drives, walking, mokoro, canoeing, boating and air charters maximise every opportunity to view Africa’s diverse flora and fauna.
Each itinerary has been carefully created with the changing seasons, game movements and guest experience in mind. All Explorations itineraries have set departure dates, and most operate with a minimum of two and a maximum of eight confirmed guests per safari. Personally crafted Explorations on flexible dates and tailored itineraries for private groups or families are available.

Wilderness Safaris is privileged to operate privately on 3.9 million hectares (8 million acres) of southern Africa’s finest wildlife reserves in some 70 lodges and camps. There is no one style set in Wilderness camps; rather we celebrate the difference and uniqueness of each area and its wildlife so that each group of camps has its own identity, feel and character.
