Catalonia is the largest tourist receiver in Spain. Catalan Tourist Board, organisation of the Government of Catalonia, is responsible for marketing and promoting Catalonia as a tourist destination. We provide support to the travel industry and identify and develop opportunities within all the foreign markets together with its travel industry.

Title of product/service Cultural Tourism in Catalonia Description Catalonia is noteworthy for its unique artistic and monumental heritage in Europe, makingit a special cultural tourism destination. As a result of this historical and cultural legacy, UNESCO has declared seven World Heritage monuments, two Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity and one Biosphere Reserve in Catalonia. The Catalan Tourist Board aims at promoting Catalan culture and heritage as a quality resource, focusing on those elements providing identity and uniqueness. Catalonia’s cultural offer is diverse and allows visitors to follow the trace of different architectural styles (Romanesque, Gothic, Modernist, etc.), well-known writers and great artistic geniuses such as Dalí, Picasso, Gaudí, Miró and Tàpies. New routes have been added, like Camí de Sant Jaume (the Catalan stretch of St. James’ Way) and Pirineu Comtal (Counts’ Pyrenees), and others consolidated as attractive top-range tourist products: Camí dels Bons Homes (Good Men’s Way), Catalunya Jueva (Jewish Catalonia), Ruta dels Íbers (Iberian Route), Catalunya Romana (Roman Catalonia), the Cistercian Route, Ruta del Temple (Knights Templars Route) and the various routes associated to industrial and religious heritage, among others. Catalonia has more than 400 museums and arts centres devoted to all periods and styles, completed by a vast exhibition programme. Two of its finest examples are the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (National Art Museum of Catalonia, MNAC), housing one of the world’s largest collections of Romanesque art, and the Museu de la Ciència i de la Tècnica de Catalunya (Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia, mNACTEC), with branches scattered throughout Catalonia. Hence Catalonia has been pioneering in Europe in looking for a certified label for destinations specifically geared to family tourism.
