Job Title: IIPT Founder and President Company Name: International Institute of Peace through Tourism (IIPT) Louis D'Amore is Founder and President of the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT), a not for profit organization dedicated to ‘Making travel and tourism the world’s first global peace industry’ – the belief that ‘Every traveler is potentially an Ambassador for Peace’ – and poverty reduction. He has organized conferences, summits, and workshops on ‘Peace through Tourism’ in most regions of the world. Mr. D’Amore pioneered the introduction of a social and environmental ethic within the travel and tourism industry in the mid- 1970’s as part of the world’s first study on the future of tourism conducted for the Government of Canada. IIPT’s first Global Conference, Tourism – A Vital Force for Peace, Vancouver 1988, first introduced the concept of Sustainable Tourism. In 1992, following the U.N. Conference on Environment and Development (Rio Summit), he developed the world’s first Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Sustainable Tourism and shortly thereafter, conducted the world’s first international study on best practices regarding tourism and environment for the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). |
